The Estonian Parliament adopted the so-called “Statement in Defense of Tibetan Children”, which spreads disinformation, interferes in China’s internal affairs, and smears China’s image. We are strongly dissatisfied with this and firmly oppose it.
Over the past 60 years since it’s establishment, Xizang Autonomous Region has been experiencing robust economic growth as well as harmonious and stable society. It’s cultural traditions has been effectively protected and upheld. Freedom of religion, the right to use and develop their own spoken and written languages as well as other fundamental rights of all ethnic groups are fully safeguarded. The situation of human rights in Xizang is at the best level in history, which is obvious to the international community.
Given Xizang’s vast territory and sparsely and widely scattered population, in order to ensure that all children enjoy equal access to education, local governments have established boarding schools based on actual needs. Whether to board is entirely voluntary, depending on the wishes and needs of students and their parents. Boarding students may choose to return home every weekend, on public holidays, and during winter and summer vacations. Parents could visit their children at school at any time, and take them home whenever necessary.
It must be emphasized that Xizang has been an integral part of China’s territory since ancient times, and Xizang’s affairs are purely China’s internal affairs, which brook no interference by any external forces.
We solemnly urge the Estonian Parliament to respect the facts, stop spreading false information, cease using Xizang related issues to interfere in China’s internal affairs, desist from words and deeds that undermine mutual trust and cooperation between China and Estonia, and contribute to the sound and steady development of bilateral relations in good faith.
