On August 25, 2005, Premier Wen Jiabao of the State Council met in the Great Hall of the People with Estonian President Arnold Rüütel.

China and Estonia are geologically far away from each other, but the two people always hold friendly feelings toward each other, cherish and are committed to building friendly cooperation between the two countries, which is a great treasure for the consolidation and progress of bilateral relations, said Wen when meeting with Rüütel.

Wen noted that China-Estonia relations enjoy a sound basis and promising future. China is willing to work with Estonia to strengthen the political exchanges and coordination and collaboration in international affairs and raise the bilateral economic and trade cooperation to new levels by adopting more pragmatic cooperative ways. It is believed that with the joint efforts of both sides, China-Estonia relations will surely achieve faster and greater development.

Rüütel said that with the concerted efforts of both sides Estonia-China relations get increasingly deepened and strengthened and the bilateral cooperation in such fields as economy, culture and education is fairly fruitful. Estonia-China cooperation enjoys great potential and promising prospects and it is hoped that both sides would reinforce cooperation in electronics, communication, biotechnology, transportation and other areas.
