Chinese Week held successfully in Tartu

In collaboration with Tartu City Government, Tartu University, the Confucius Institute of Tallinn University, Estonian School Sports Union, Estonian Toy Museum, Tartu Vanemuine Theater and other partners, the Chinese Embassy held Chinese Week in Tartu from 18 to 27 April.

During the event, a photo exhibition "Silk Road-A New Look" was open to the public at the Tartu University Museum, presenting rich culture and beautiful landscape along the Ancient Silk Road in China which stretches from the coastal area in the east to the hinterland in the west. A seminar entitled "Doing Business in China" invited the director of Asian Information Center of Enterprise Estonia and representatives of Estonian enterprises that had business relations with Chinese companies to share their knowledge and experience on China's business environment. The Economic and Commercial Counsellor of the Embassy Mr. Wu Yan gave an opening remarks for the seminar. Parents and their children participated in the family day with the theme of "Dragon and Panda" at Estonian Toy museum, getting to know Chinese culture by playing interesting Chinese games. Chinese feature and documentary films on different topics brought the life of ordinary Chinese people to local movie-goers. The Confucius Institute of Tallinn University organized public workshop on Chinese language, which were well-received by people who would like to learn mandarin. The workshop on Taiji and Qigong showed how Chinese martial arts and philosophy could help people keep fit. The performance by Beijing Dance Theatre in Vanemuine Theatre brought contemporary ballet to nearly one thousand Estonian audience, which was the highlight of the Chinese Week.

The Chinese Ambassador Qu Zhe visited Tartu during the week, attending the prize-giving ceremony of the "Bumerang" national sports quiz for middle school students and giving a lecture on Belt and Road Initiative at Johan Skytte Institute of Political Studies.
