Chinese Week held in Viljandi

On 23-27 January 2017, the Chinese Embassy in Estonia, together with Viljandi Town Government and Viljandi Education Development Fund, successfully held the first-ever Chinese Culture Week in Viljandi.

During the one week event, three Chinese feature films about the life of ordinary Chinese people in different times were screened. Martial arts classes and traditional Chinese music concert were organized and very popular among local residents. A photo exhibition with the theme of Silk Road – A New Look showed the diversified culture and tradition of different ethnic groups living along the ancient silk road in China.

The Chinese Ambassador H.E. Mr. Qu Zhe paid a visit to Viljandi during the event and met with the Mayor of Viljandi Mr. Ando Kiviberg, Chairman of the Council Mr. Tiit Jürmann, Chairlady of the Estonia-China Parliamentary Group of Riigikogu Mrs. Helmen Kütt and the member of the parliamentary group Mr. Helmut Hallemaa. Both sides exchanged views on further strengthening local cooperation between Viljandi and the Chinese cities.

Accompanied by the headmaster of Viljandi Gümnaasium, Ambassador Qu visited the school and donated some books on China to the school library. The representatives of the Chinese Embassy introduced the Chinese Government Scholarship programs to the middle school students. The Ambassador also visited the Cleveron, a leading pack robot company in Estonia, and the Viljandi Window and Doors Factory. He had meetings with the board members of those companies.
